For the Nordic Coffee Fest we asked some of our partners in crime coffee to send their favourite brewing recipes. For those who came to the fair the free printed brochure was available but worry not for those not in the NCF hood, we'll share all the recipes once a week here and on our Instagram @espressogear

The last recipe couldn't be more special, it comes directly from home. Fredrik Gorthon is EG's CEO and a dinossaur in this coffee industry of ours. To know more about Espresso Gear... Just kidding.

That's Fredrik Gorthon, CEO of Espresso Gear

Why We Love the French Press

No paper filters needed – so you keep all the coffee oils (and flavor!)
Elegant design – it looks just as good on the table as it tastes in the cup
Full control – adjust grind, time, and technique to your liking

What You’ll Need

  • A French press

  • 60g of coarse-ground coffee

  • Water heated to around 93°C

  • Timer

  • Stirring spoon

Step-by-Step: How to Brew Coffee with a French Press

☕ Step 1: Measure & Grind

Start with 60g of coarsely ground coffee. A coarse grind prevents over-extraction and sludge at the bottom of your cup.

💦 Step 2: Preheat the Press

Rinse your French press with warm water to keep your brew hot longer. Discard the rinse water before brewing.

💧 Step 3: Add Coffee & Water

Pour the 60g of ground coffee into the empty, preheated press. Add hot water (93°C) slowly, making sure to saturate all the grounds.

🔁 Step 4: Stir Thoroughly

Use a spoon to gently stir the mixture, ensuring every coffee ground is evenly wet. This step is key to even extraction.

⏱️ Step 5: Set Timer for 3 Minutes

Let the coffee steep without the lid on. Time it for 3 minutes—this is where the magic happens.

🧼 Step 6: Break the Crust & Settle

Once the timer hits 3 minutes, use a spoon to break the crust that’s formed on top. Stir gently, then wait 20 more seconds to let the grounds settle.

🔽 Step 7: Press & Pour

Place the lid on, slowly press the plunger down, and pour yourself a cup of that rich, aromatic coffee.

Pro Tip: Customize Your Brew

Feel free to tweak the ratio or brew time depending on your taste. Like it stronger? Try 65g. Prefer a lighter cup? Drop it to 55g. The French press is all about flavor freedom.

Final Thoughts

With its sleek design and rich results, the French press remains a classic for good reason. It’s approachable for beginners and endlessly customizable for coffee geeks. Whether it’s your first time using one or your hundredth, this method delivers a reliably great cup—every single time.
