TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro – 48mm Tri-Break Hand Grinder

The S3 was good. TIMEMORE decided it could be even better.

The TIMEMORE Chestnut S5 Pro builds on everything people loved about the S3, introducing a completely new 48mm TriB-048-I burr set for more controlled grinding, greater particle consistency and impressive versatility across both filter coffee and espresso.

Bigger burr. Better control.

The S5 Pro upgrades the S3’s 42mm burr to a larger 48mm stainless steel burr—a size more commonly found in electric grinders.

TIMEMORE’s new Tri-Break design uses three forces to break down each coffee bean before the final grind:

• Compression draws the bean into the burr
• Piercing opens it using serrated S2C-style teeth
• Shearing cuts it with alternating flat blades

This creates a more controlled feed into the main grinding section, reducing unpredictable crushing and producing a tighter, more consistent particle distribution.

Despite its larger burr, the intelligent pre-breaking geometry reduces the torque required, keeping the S5 Pro remarkably smooth and comfortable to use.

More body, more definition—and better espresso

Compared with the S3, the S5 Pro produces coffee with greater structure, body and definition while maintaining excellent clarity.

Acidity becomes more pronounced yet remains balanced by sweetness, while the improved grind consistency gives you greater control when dialling in each brew.

The S5 Pro is also considerably more capable for espresso, making it an exceptionally versatile hand grinder for anyone who regularly switches between espresso and pour-over.

External adjustment with 90 clicks

The external adjustment system has also been redesigned.

Inspired by a camera lens aperture ring, every adjustment produces a more defined click that you can both hear and feel. A red indicator makes the current setting easy to identify, while the firmer mechanism helps prevent accidental changes during storage or travel.

With 90 grind settings at approximately 15 microns per click, the S5 Pro offers the precision needed to dial in everything from delicate filter coffee to serious espresso.
